Program Engineer
About Mach
Mach builds production-ready autonomy for the world's toughest off-road environments. We help equipment manufacturers bring autonomous and semi-autonomous machines to market across agriculture, construction, mining, defense, and other industries. Our technology combines perception, navigation, planning, controls, connectivity, and operator tools to help heavy equipment work safely and consistently in the real world.
Position
Mach is looking for a Program Engineer to combine project coordination with hands-on technical execution for defense and commercial vehicle programs. This role turns customer requirements into practical integration work, clear milestones, and verified results.
You will work with customers, engineering, and program teams to plan and carry out integration, troubleshooting, and testing. The focus is on delivering customer programs while coordinating product-team involvement when work requires a product change or specialist support.
What You'll Be Doing
- Translate program requirements into integration tasks, test criteria, milestones, and clear technical handoffs with customers and engineering.
- Coordinate schedules, dependencies, open issues, and readiness for program milestones; communicate progress and raise risks early.
- Perform hands-on system integration and bring-up, using drawings, interface documentation, and engineering guidance to connect hardware and software.
- Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical integration issues, document observations, and help verify repairs or design changes.
- Plan and support vehicle tests and demonstrations, coordinate equipment readiness, and document results against agreed requirements.
- Record build configurations, component identification, test results, and rework so engineering teams can reproduce and support the system.
- Follow approved safety procedures and applicable program-specific handling, documentation, and training requirements.
Ideal Experience
The ideal candidate brings experience in several of the following areas:
- Technical execution and coordination of customer engineering projects involving vehicles, robotics, industrial equipment, or electromechanical systems.
- Integrating hardware, software, sensors, communications, or vehicle interfaces and diagnosing problems across system boundaries.
- Translating requirements into practical work plans, coordinating dependencies, and communicating status with customers and engineering teams.
- Supporting engineering prototypes, test vehicles, or builds that change as designs mature.
Requirements for Success
- Practical engineering judgment and the ability to turn an ambiguous program need into defined work and measurable results.
- A methodical approach to troubleshooting, with accurate notes that help others understand the problem and the work completed.
- Comfortable collaborating with engineers and raising safety, quality, or configuration concerns promptly.
- Ownership of technical work and follow-through on schedules, risks, and dependencies across multiple contributors.
- Willingness to learn new equipment and processes and to complete training required for assigned work.
Nice to Have
- Experience with off-road or heavy equipment, robotics, vehicle electronics, or prototype development.
- Familiarity with CAN networks, diagnostic software, computer configuration, or basic data logging.
- Familiarity with U.S. DoD contracting and reporting requirements.
- Ability to obtain a security clearance to facilitate access to U.S. government sites.
Position Specifics
- Job Type: Full-Time
- Location: on-site, Ely, Iowa or Finksburg, Maryland office
- Salary: $90,000 - $130,000 per year, dependent on experience and qualifications
- Travel: Approximately 10%–30%, with occasional periods of travel up to 50% based on customer and project needs.
Benefits
- Generous vacation and PTO
- 10+ paid holidays
- 75% company-sponsored Health plan
- Dental, Vision, and 401k available
- Equity incentive package
Other Requirements
- 5+ years experience in robotics, autonomy or equivalent hands-on experience in related field
- U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (Green Card Holder)
- Ability to pass a background check
